Director, Alpine Sports
From the outset of his career, Nigel Cooper has picked ‘the best line on the ridge’ – as an athlete, a coach and a sport manager. With over 25 years of industry experience under his belt, Nigel started out on the slopes of Horseshoe where he excelled as an athlete, coach and Program Director.
Nigel is now returning to Horseshoe after having worked as Program Director for Whistler Mountain Ski Club; Director of Development with Ski & Snowboard Club Vail; Athletic Director for British Columbia Ski Association and Athlete Development Manager with Alpine Canada where he was overseeing Alpine/Ski Cross domestic programming.
As a seasoned athlete and coach himself Nigel led Team Canada’s Victory at the Whistler Cup in 2013 and has delivered 5 Osisko Going4Gold Speed/Ski Cross Camps. A Provincial High School and Collegiate ski racing champion, Nigel is a Level 3 Canadian Alpine Ski Official and a Fully Certified Level 3 Canadian Ski Coaches Federation ski coach
In his role as Director of Alpine Sports for Horseshoe MultiSport Academy, Nigel will focus on the development and training of participants in the competitive program as well as oversee and cultivate a team of experienced alpine coaches.
Director of Partnerships and Events
Jonathan has more than 15 years experience in the ski resort and event industry. He joined the Skyline Horseshoe team in 2011. Prior to joining the Skyline Horseshoe team he held a number of positions in recreation, marketing, and events with Blue Mountain Resort.
Learning to ski out of the Toronto Ski Club programs, Jonathan was a member of the southern Ontario ski team and attended the National ski Academy. He later went on to pursue a professional career in snowboarding.
In 1995 Jonathan competed in Poland as a member of the Canadian World Jr Snowboard team. From 1996 to 2000 he earned himself a spot on the Canadian National Snowboard Team competing in the US Pro Tour, ISF / FIS World Cup tours and five U.S Opens. In 1996 he won gold at the Canadian National Championships and was awarded the Collingwood Sports hall of Fame award.
Jonathan was the head coach and one of the founding members of the Canadian Special Olympic Snowboard team. He continues to work with the organization and will be heading to Austria in 2016-2017 as a Level 2 FIS TD for the World Games.
Jonathan holds a diploma from Georgian College and currently sits as President of the Board of Directors for Snowboard Ontario.
Head Coach, Nordic
A life-long athlete, Andrew brings over 25 years of experience in Nordic racing and coaching to Horseshoe Resort. With a passion for developing athletes, Andrew has worked with multiple junior development programs and lead individuals and teams at numerous championships and winter games across Ontario. From selecting the best equipment to race-day waxing, Andrew also brings an extensive knowledge of ski equipment to help bring out the best in athletes. Currently a trained L2T Nordic Coach, Andrew is actively pursuing Competition Development certification. Always an athlete at heart, Andrew can be found competing and having fun as a Masters skier and cyclist
