Snow Jam - January 14 and 15, 2012
The Horseshoe Events team made a stop on the Wilfrid Laurier Campus this past weekend for “Snow Jam” part of their Winter Carnival series. The team loaded up Friday night and made the snowy trek down to Waterloo to make sure there was plenty of setup time before the event got underway. The WLU campus is located in the city of Waterloo, near Guelph and is host to 3 Universities all close to each other so there are lots willing to partake in a rail jam, even though it was a frosty Saturday morning.
The event was sponsored by Capital, Union, Coal, Ashbury, LIB Tech, Nomis, Technine, Stepchild, Vans Snow and Sanction with support from Horseshoe Resort and Redbull with live tunes provided by DJ Dijon.
The open jam saw some familiar faces including the wizard Cam Veenstra giving the WLU girls a treat by making the rail setup look easy by throwing variations of nose press/slide on the double rail setup all day long.
The music was spun by DJ Dijon, a WLU student on top of the RedBullvintage command vehicle while the bundled up RedBull girls were handing out drinks for those looking to warm up any chance they could.
The weather was great although on the cold side – the vibes positive and some familiar faces were around, which is good – you get a better idea who supports grassroots projects and anything we can do to promote the sport of skiing or snowboarding, if even the middle of a parking lot, we’ll be there.

Crime Stoppers at Horseshoe
Ident day at Horseshoe Resort On Saturday January 7th, skiers and boarders were able to etch a unique identifier into their equipment (a pets name or something only they would know) by equipment provided free of charge by Crime Stoppers. We were able to help protect 70 sets of equipment! (just shy of the record, but that should be broken on their return Feb 20th) Many thanks to the local branch of Crime Stoppers and Mike/Bev Williams for helping keep our customers equipment safe and helping spread awareness about equipment theft.Customers were also treated to the sounds of a 2-day live DJ set. DJ O-God was back again this weekend spinning his signature beats to the crowd. The weather was awesome; nice and sunny with almost spring-like conditions!

World Snowboard Day at Horseshoe
On Sunday Dec 18th, Horseshoe Resort hosted the 6th Annual World Snowboard Day. With 167 resorts in over 37 countries participating in celebrating the sport of snowboarding. With the name of the game being fun, friends and the simple pleasures of being out on the hill in the winter and taking snowboarding back to its roots of a way to spend time with friends, having laughs and trying new things.
With the atmosphere of Live Djs spinning music, a vendors row with board demos and plenty of industry types to get advice and tips from, everything was set in place for a day of fun. If you happened to be cold or get hungry out on the hill, Vans were kind enough to provide Belgian waffles on a stick to give you fuel and an excuse to talk to other boarders about how much they enjoy snowboarding.
If you were in the market for a new board, Ride and K2 were on-hill providing demos of their new gear to educate people about their brand and the benefits of riding them. Even if you were happy with your current setup, advice and tools were provided in case they were needed. Capita and Union were our on-hill ambassadors and accompanied by their team with riders Brad Gualey, Matt Bujok, Mark Goodall, and Cam Veenstra. The day saw people strapping up their first set of bindings, to a toddler learning how to glide to professionals and seasoned veterans doing what they do best; talking about and occasionally snowboarding.
We would like to thank everyone who came out and celebrated with us: Capita Snowboards, Union Bindings, Ride Snowboards, K2 Snowboards, Arnette, Vans Snow, DJ O-God and fans of snowboarding. Photos by Stefan Brierley and Connor Dudgeon.
