2016.17 Development Squad 9 weeks 

Development Squad (Devo Squad) is a Saturday or Sunday program for ages 4 to 12 years that are looking for an introduction to race training and ski improvement. Devo Squad follows the 7-step Snow Stars skill development guide designed by Alpine Canada and the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation. Based on age and ability; athletes will experience exposure to both alpine race techniques including the use of stubby-type courses as well as exposure to freestyle fundamentals including moguls, terrain park and the skier-cross course. Horseshoe offers a 8 week programs starting on Saturday January 7th to Saturday March 4th, 2017 or Sunday January 8th, to Sunday March 5th

U6 Devo Squad (ages 4 and 5; Year of birth 2011 and 2012)

- athletes must be semi-independent on lifts

- athletes must have attained the Snowstars Level 1 (children that can’t yet ski independently on blue runs should register in the Snowflakes weekend programs)

- 6:2 athlete to coach ratio

- 9:00 am to 11:00 am AND 11:45 am to 1:45 pm = 4-hours (please note the the 11:00 to 11:45 am lunch break is not supervised by the coaches)

- a valid lift ticket or seasons pass is required for all programs

- a snowsports specific helmet is mandatory for all program participants

- Program available starting Saturday January 7th - Saturday March 4th OR Sunday January 8th to Sunday March 5th.

- Devo Squad includes the Snowstars Games event on March 4th or 5th.

HORSESHOE RESORT COMPETITIVE SKI RACING TEAMS - 2015/2016

Alpine Teams - 12 Week and 9 week Programming (Sat & Sun)

Horseshoe’s Alpine Team programs are geared towards youth and children who are committed to a minimum of 2 days per week training (Sat/Sun) in Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super G, Downhill and Ski Cross. This is in preparation for a competition schedule that is both age appropriate and fun in volume, complexity and progression. Extra training is available for those competing at an even higher level.

The 12 week Team Program begins December 12 and runs through February 28, 2016. The 9 week Team Programs begin January 2 and runs through February 28. The Team Program fee also includes Time Trails on December 31, 2015 and Club Championships on March 5, 2016 (Please note that coaches will be in attendance during Time Trails and Club Championships to facilitate the athletes by assisting with course inspection and race starts only; these are not training days). The athletes ticket to attend the Year End Banquet on March 5, 2016 is also included in Program fees. 

A valid lift ticket or seasons pass is required for all program dates. A snowsports specific helmet with hard ears is mandatory for all competition program participants and must meet all FIS guidelines.

SNOWBOARD TEAMS 

The competitive snowboard teams at Horseshoe train and race on Saturdays and Sundays with the option of additional Friday training at specific events.  Their focus is on skill development in alpine race, snowboardcross, and terrain park environments. Teams primarily train at Horseshoe and attend both home and away races (All race dates and locations are not announced by Snowboard Ontario until closer to the start of the race season).

All team athletes are required to have a signed Snowboard Ontario waiver and pay the required SO competitor/entry fees. Visit Snowboard Ontario (SO) for more details.

A valid lift ticket or seasons pass is required for all program dates. A snowsports specific helmet is mandatory for all competition program participants and must meet all FIS guidelines.  Fitted mouth guards are also required for training and events.

 

To participate in the competitive snowboard program all new athletes must complete a successful skills evaluation prior to program start.  Participants must have a Terrain Park Pass, be comfortable linking turns on blue and black terrain, and be independent on lifts.  Please note: this is not a Learn to Snowboard program.

Masters Programs

The Masters programs at Horseshoe are for adults aged 18 years and up. Training runs Saturdays and Sundays from Saturday December 12 to Sunday February 28.

Unique to the Masters programs at Horseshoe, you can pick and choose how many days and which days that you want to train. Just purchase a booklet of training days and hand them directly to the coach on the days you decide to train. Booklets can be shared between spouses and used between the two programs.  

Race Masters:

The Race Masters program is for the advanced skier who wants to improve speed and technique on the racecourse as well as all-terrain tactics. An advanced skiing standard is required and previous racing experience recommended but not required.

9:00 am to 11:00 am AND 11:45 am to 1:45 pm = 4-hours 

Performance Ski Masters:

For those looking for more than just your average ski school program, Performance Ski Masters focuses on technical free-skiing and taking your skills to the next level. An intermediate skiing standard is recommended (can ski parallel on all intermediate slopes).
